What is Prince2?

In my first post on the blog I will answer the question of what Prince2 is.

Prince2 is an acronym for PRojects IN Controlled Environments. It is a process based method for effective project management.

The PRINCE methodology was first established in 1989 in the UK by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency, now known as the OGC (the Office of Government Commerce).

PRINCE2 was first published in 1996, which is a upgraded version of PRINCE. The new methodology was produced in cooperation with around 150 European companies and organisations.

Prince2 is extensively used by the UK Government, and is widely recognised and used in the private sector.

The key features of the PRINCE2 methodology are (Referred to as the Seven Principles of Prince2):

Focused on continued business justification for the project at all points in the project
Has a defined and agreed roles and responsibities for the project management team
Management of project is done in stages with review points at the end of each stage
Management is done by exception
Learning from experience
Adopting the PRINCE2 methodology to fit the project that is being worked on
Focused on the end Product of the project, the product is clear at all stages of the poject

Introduction

I came up with the idea for the blog as I am currently learning Prince2, so I thought I would write about what I learn each day.
